Public Meeting - Wimbledon Park Improvements with Justine Greening and Friends of Wimbledon Park

Dear Resident, Wimbledon Park Public Meeting: 23 November at 7pm at the Wimbledon Club The Friends of Wimbledon Park and I are hosting a public meeting on 23rd November at 7pm at the Wimbledon Club to get your views on ideas for improving Wimbledon Park. As you may be aware, last year Merton Council made a series of proposals on Wimbledon Park. This included moving the athletics stadium to near the railway line, a move that many local residents did not support as the stadium would have backed onto residents’ gardens and created a lot of disruption. Fortunately, those plans were shelved by Merton Council, so along with the Friends of Wimbledon Park and Stephen Hammond MP, after having had lots of feedback on what people didn’t like, we wanted to try to have a better discussion on what changes we would like to see, and I would like to get your views on better ways for the park to be improved. The meeting will give a chance for Friends of Wimbledon Park to share some of the ideas they have already had for ways to improve the existing facilities and improve the park. It will be a chance for residents to feedback on those ideas but also importantly to suggest some suggestions of your own. Ideally we’d like to then pull together a resident-driven proposal with Friends of Wimbledon Park and then get Merton and Wandsworth Council to support it to be taken forward. In the meantime, I have also written to Merton Council to see what the next steps are for the park and how we can take forward any residents’ ideas that come from our meeting. The meeting will take place on 23rd November at 7pm at the Wimbledon Club so do come along to share your own thoughts and views. Also, please do share this with your friends and neighbours if you know someone who might be interested in attending.
